Master - Chao Rinshen
Magus
Name: Chao “El-Melloi” Rinshen
Alias: Chao Lingshen, El-Melloi III
Age: Nineteen
Gender: Female
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Family Line: Springfield
Servant: Lü Bu
Face Claim: Chao Lingshen (Mahou Sensei Negima!)
Appearance: Chao Rinshen's cultural and ethnic heritage is not necessarily apparent at first glance; even though she is mostly Chinese, her skin is a shade of white most often found in European peoples. This is owed to her mixed Eurasian heritage, though by now her blood and family are mostly Chinese, and she only identifies herself ethnically as a Chinese female. Her skin is decidedly feminine; smooth and soft to the touch, its flawless texture giving it an almost silky softness. Still, to assume Chao is weak because of her external beauty is a mistake an enemy may very well only be allowed to make once. From years of training, her body is very strong and tough, expertly conditioned since she was able to walk. Her musculature is neither lacking nor overly evident, and does little-to-nothing to take away from her aesthetically pleasing looks. Her lithe form is designed with a combination of strength, speed, balance, and elegance in mind through a combination of several forms of Chinese martial arts. Despite a lack of apparent muscle about her form, she is very strong and a powerful opponent in all physical regards, capable of expert feats of agility and power.
Chao's raven hair boasts a slight sheen to it, allowing it to appear both richly dark and elegantly light in tone. She keeps her hair long, but utilizes customized hair-stylization techniques to keep her long hair manageable and artificially short enough to engage in combat without worry. Most noticeably, Chao keeps a good portion of her hair tucked seamlessly beneath two white pieces of fabric which are secured from within by durable pink string. Artificial pink flower petals often peek from beneath these hair ornaments, only adding to Chao's femininity and elegance. Behind each of these hair buns, Chao ties several strands of her hair together into narrow ponytails, worn symmetrically along with the silk hair covers. These ponytails are secured at the ends with small, pink ribbons. Using these various hair ornaments, Chao keeps her hair manageable in tandem with a particular hairstyle. Her bangs are kept semi-long, allowed to hang gracefully past her eyebrows, but restrained from covering her eyes in any noticeable way. Only two symmetrically cut sections of hair are allowed to go past her eyes, on the outside of either eye and in front of either ear, though these sections of hair do not actually hide her ears from sight. In the back, Chao only allows her hair to reach just past the nape of her neck, where it is kept short enough that it barely starts to turn outwards. When let down, her hair is long enough in the back to reach just to or past her shoulder blades.
Chao’s eyes are a unique shade of honey flecked with gold, giving them an aura that is simultaneously mysterious and beautiful. An almost perpetual but subtle blush exists on Chao’s cheeks just beneath each eye, though this is not accomplished through makeup and allows her to look even more lovely when she smiles and angry when she furrows her brow. Her lips are thin and often only betray just the right, rehearsed amount of emotion along with her eyes. Her nose is smallish and straight, pointed just slightly but subtly enough to not disrupt the gentle curves of her facial features. Neither are her ears excessively large, and her eyes are turned slightly upwards through the parameters of her eyelids. Her elegant jaw and chin come to a soft, sharp point often found in Asian peoples, as opposed to Western, more square jaws. Her slender yet strong neck yields to the beginning of a finely formed hourglass frame that masks her true power. Every muscle in her body seems conditioned to look graceful and beautiful yet bear a burden far beyond what they apparently should.
In regards to fashion, Chao often wears elegant clothing suitable for the day-to-day dealings of the one blessed with the noble El Melloi title. From subtle laces and frills to custom tailored dresses and blouses or shirts and pants, her casual clothing knows no one typical style or color scheme. However, her “work clothes” as she calls them, are usually consistent. The outfit she favors for fighting or engaging in work-related activities as a magus consist of a custom-made, state-of-the-art battle suit that is both comfortable and efficient, incorporating magic and technology to manifest the equivalent of a walking tank. Chao’s suit is white and black in color, made from a material unknown to man that allows her to stay cool in warm weather and warm in cooler temperatures. Fire resistant, waterproof, lined with magically reinforced microkevlar and chain to prevent penetration or cuts and lacerations of any kind from even intermediate level spells and traumas. Even high-caliber, armor-piercing bullets and point-blank explosions - mundane or magic - won’t put a scratch on her EMP hardened outfit. The various functions of the outfit itself are detailed in her battle information.
As for the physical components of her battlesuit, the color scheme is white, black, and yellow. The base piece of the battlesuit is an almost skintight fabric that clings to every curve of her frame and allows for the aforementioned comfort and mobility. The very bottom of this “base piece” reaches all the way around her feet and even comes with “toed” foot sections to allow for maximum surface area and mobility. In a sense, the freedom of movement one feels when wearing this outfit is akin to being naked. The base piece extends up her legs, around her supple rear end and crotch area, along her belly and back and torso all the way up to her neck, where it clings just as tightly but does nothing to prevent breathing or swallowing. The hand areas of this piece also accommodate each individual finger as with her feet and toes. Several articles of clothing are worn over the base piece, though they match and blend almost seamlessly in some areas, drawing both smooth and abrasive contrast on a color palate.
Chao’s gloves and boots, for example, are dark black in color though adorned with yellow in various areas enchanted with magical circuitry. The base color of both her shoulder length gloves and almost knee length boots is definitely black, but the yellow gold color - reinforced casing for conductive magical circuitry to fuel the suit’s armaments - manifests in bands that arc along the surfaces of her boots and gloves. Chao also wears a similarly patterned piece of “cloth armor” around the middle of her body, also black in color with yellow along various portions of the armor, including two yellow remotes on either hip. The armor’s bottom ends in a skirt just at her thighs, while the top clings about her torso in a manner that accentuates her ample bust. Above the base piece but beneath the cloth armor she also wears another set of cloth armor, white in color but more beige than the base piece of her outfit. This cloth armor extends from her neck down in an outline almost similar to a shirt one might wear, though without sleeves, to protect the vital portions of Chao’s body all along her back and torso.
Personality: Chao Rinshen's personality is as ambiguous as her history or her full magical potential. On the outside, Chao maintains a typically cheerful personality; she is almost always seem smiling with convincing sincerity and exudes an air of what could be called "ditziness." She may come off as clumsy on some occasions, or perhaps a personification of the saying "Ignorance is bliss" with her combination of apparent stupidity and her positive attitude and outlook on life. Chao's mask of perpetual happiness and cheerfulness, however, is just that: a mask. And like all masks, it serves to hide the true face of its wearer. The true face of El Melloi III, Chao Rinshen. The personality the mask veils from the public eye is much more complex and can even be called more sinister than her artificial personality, though perhaps that is to be expected from a magus. Though, one trait about Chao Lingshen remains true whether or not she is wearing her "ditzy genius" mask or showing her true colors: she always tells the truth, and is actually incapable of lying due to her own hidden power.
Chao Rinshen is a genius; that is quite possibly the only way to describe the sheer, staggering intellect of this very powerful magus. Her insatiable urge for knowledge has molded her into a well-spoken, very analytical individual whose mental ability is more on par with an advanced computer than that of a human. She is expertly trained in several forms of Chinese martial arts, and has mastered numerous mundane and magical fields of study with what can only be described as her affinity for "learning." She is adept at reading people and situations, and manipulating both with expert precision and foresight. Chao is analytical and calculating without exception, and can often predict how a situation might end, allowing her to formulate elaborate and versatile plans and counter-strategies with relative ease. Her personal wealth of knowledge is the source of her confidence: she does not know pride like some magus, but always is willing to state how she feels, often allowing her to seem prideful.
She does not like people who lie, as she herself refuses to ever consider lying as an option. She knows people - human and magus alike - are prone to believing what they want to believe, and so she recognizes that lying is not at all necessary to manipulate people; in her estimation, it renders one far more sincere if they have nothing to hide whatsoever. Her plans are hidden, but if she were asked about them she would reveal them. She dislikes the "outdated structure" of the magical world, of the society which inclusively calls itself "magi." She believes magic is a powerful gift, a gift which those who practice it are obligated to use to further mankind's stability, safety, security, and future. In her mind, magus are abhorrent in regards to culture: magic has no place in the shadows, and technology is a miracle of mankind's ingenuity in her eyes. While many magus consider technology pathetic or taboo, she sees technology as the "magic of humans without magical ability." In Chao's unshakable opinion, magic and science seek to answer the same questions utilizing different means.
So, Chao had decided to covertly work towards a goal...a goal which draws closer and closer every day, given both her own vast resources and the limitless power of the Holy Grail: a utopia where magus and man live side-by-side. Her wish to the Holy Grail is that mankind would recognize the existence of all things magic. She wants to create a new world order in which mankind moves forward, their vision unclouded by hate or pointless resentment of one another. In the meantime, Chao recognizes that for this vision to manifest, sacrifices must be made. She has no real problem with killing humans or magus to further her very utilitarian goal. She has seen the future of the world if it is left unaided...and so she is willing to destroy the world in order to save it. She claims that "the future of this world is so utterly terrifying and full of despair, that no damage any one person or magus could do could ever prepare the world for what awaits her."
History: Chao Rinshen was born on a different time plane, far into the future by two generations or so. Her father was a powerful magus, and her mother a brilliant scientist, and both of them were born to magus as well. However, Chao was born into a time when a wish had been made upon the Holy Grail: for an unending war between magus and humankind. She was born shortly after this wish was made in the Eighth Heaven's Feel, and because of her parents being "mixed" - that is, one of them being a magus and one being a mudane human with no magical ability - she and her family were kept secret from the world. They remained hidden by a secret group of humans and magi whom resisted the senseless war of the worlds. The wish had instantly caused humans to recognize magic, and see magi as their enemies. The result had been numerous years of unending war between the worlds of human and magus, and in the midst of this conflict, Chao Rinshen was born underground, in a place called Mahora Academy.
Mahora Academy was a paradise on Earth compared to the world at large. It was a utopia, where magus and human beings worked side-by-side with one another, as equals. A vast expanse referred to as the "Academic City," run democratically by both ordinary humans and magi. Even demons and vampires and other creatures of the supernatural world were welcome, and the city flourished even as the world beyond Mahora Valley knew naught but turmoil and conflict. And, with the rest of the world engaged in intense and unyielding warfare, it was of course only a matter of time before the eyes of both factions turned to Mahora Academy. Both saw the paradise on Earth as an eyesore with no reason for existence, and when the two sides began trying to destroy Mahora City, Chao herself was only seven years old. Even then, she was a genius for her age, and she constantly questioned her parents about the enemy, specifically asking "Why do they hate us?"
The answer she was given by her mother, a brilliant scientist excelling in scientific theories regarding time and space, was this: "We have what they do not. We have something they want: knowledge; the key to peace between our two worlds." And it was this regularly reinforced answer that molded Chao's young mind so that it held one conviction above all others: knowledge is what mattered above all else, and she grew to recognize both the army of magus and mankind as enemies whom would abuse knowledge of both science and magic and use either respectively to destroy one another. When Chao was eight, the barrier around Mahora Valley was finally destroyed, and the two armies invaded, dragging Mahora into their bloody, pointless conflict. Her mother rushed her into the basement of a private governmental laboratory, telling her eight year old daughter what her latest project was all about: a time capsule, designed to incorporate the lost magic of time manipulation and science to enable a human being to survive a "time leap." Her mother forced Chao into the single-person pod, and activated the magic container.
The result was a success, and shortly after Chao's forced departure, her parents worked together to destroy the compound, and all research on the lost magic of time manipulation. They had intended for their daughter to live in a world not scarred by hatred and resentment between man and magus. But Chao - in her eight years of life - had learned to privately resent both mankind and the world of magi. They both fought and took everything from her in their stupid, pointless war. A war that ensued because the two worlds did not try to understand one another. And seeing her world thrown into chaos and disorder, her perfect utopia engulfed in flames...Chao's mind was made up. She couldn't change anything here...it was too late. But her parents had given her what she decided was a chance to save their world. That was never her parent's intention, but the young mind of Chao Rinshen was broken and fractured by the devastation she had witnessed. The Magus Wars had torn Earth apart, destroying society as far as she was concerned. So, she would work to change the future using Ockham's razor: a principle urging one to select among competing hypotheses that which makes the fewest assumptions and thereby offers the simplest explanation of the effect. She would obtain the Holy Grail, and force the gradual integration of the two worlds under her own supervision.
so, at nine years old, Chao Rinshen - whom had spent a few months securing assets performing magic on the level of a prodigy - entered Clocktower. She thrived within the Mage's Association and excelled in all her studies. She was essentially a sponge without limit: she could learn anything, it seemed. Any discipline of magic seemed to come naturally to her, and she spent her free time training and studying, only stopping to eat and sleep, and even doing those kind of "leisurely activities" on a carefully crafted schedule. She worked hard, and by age fourteen she inherited the title "El Melloi III," setting her upon a pedestal as Clocktower's greatest magus. She wore the title proudly, and continued to prove herself a prodigy, graduating from Clocktower at age fifteen. At age fifteen, El Melloi could out perform almost any scholarly or matured magus with what seemed like little effort. She also conditioned her body through rigorous training and exercise, and her thesis captivated - and outraged - many magus academics: The Incorporation of Technology and Magic into One Discipline, by Chao Rinshen."
The magus community was largely split. A small fraction supported Chao's theories and ideals, of man and mage integrating gradually and learning to understand one another. To incorporate the mundane world's justice system into the magical world and punish those who "misused" magic. She was followed by many loyal supporters and at age sixteen she was given a Sealing Designation because of two factors: the outpouring of support, and the death threats against El Melloi III, whose title was unable to be redacted without extreme reaction from the magical community. El Melloi III did not respond well to the news of her Sealing Designation, but she did not outright rebel either. She waited, going about preparing for the upcoming Seventh Heaven's Feel. She had a plan...and in the end, she had no intentions of "going quietly"

Magical Spells:
~ Reinforcement :: This technique is used both with and without her battlesuit, though when used with the battlesuit it simply serves the purpose of rendering her capable of increasing the suit's original output in all physical aspects while also letting her body ensure such performance and movement without any issues. Without the battlesuit, the reinforcement gives her about half of the suit's "five-fold" capability, approximately allowing Chao Rinshen to use two-and-a-half times her normal physical performance capabilities. Without the battlesuit, Chao is capable of using reinforcement to crack stone with ease and move at speeds even most magus may find difficult to contend with.
~ Double Accel :: Single-Action :: This time magic spell allows Chao to project a reality marble about her own body through her Mystic Code, Cassiopeia. In this case, she can briefly increase her body's functions and move at twice the speed she can normally move, perceive, and act.
~ Quarterly Reset :: Single-Action :: This time magic spell allows Chao to project a reality marble about her own body through her Mystic Code, Cassiopeia. In this case, she can instantly revert to her and other's physical occupation of space fifteen to thirty seconds ago, depending on her will by utilizing the teleportation ability of Cassiopeia.
~ Stream Reduction :: Single-Action :: This time magic spell allows Chao to project a reality marble about her own body through her Mystic Code, Cassiopeia. In this case, Chao slows down time within the aforementioned area of effect; this is usually used to slow down enemies and projectiles as well as spells and attacks.
~ Force Accelerate :: Single-Action :: This time magic spell allows Chao to project a reality marble about her own body through her Mystic Code, Cassiopeia. In this case, she speeds up time within the aforementioned area of effect; this is usually used to cause attacks or enemies to overshoot their destinations.
~ Reverse Flow :: Single-Action :: This time magic spell allows Chao to project a reality marble about her own body through her Mystic Code, Cassiopeia. In this case, Chao reverses time up to five minutes within the determined space, even reversing injuries and attacks causality for herself and anyone caught within the field.
~ Frozen Water :: Single-Action :: This time magic spell allows Chao to project a reality marble about her own body through her Mystic Code, Cassiopeia. In this case, Chao stops time for three seconds in the determined area.
~ Shared Perception :: Support-type :: This spell is used to share certain senses with a creature infused with the magi's own prana. In this case, sight and hearing can both be shared freely with her Servant. This ability only covers about half the distance of the entirety of Fuyuki City at Chao's level, rendering it only practical if she maintains such a distance to Lu Bu.
~ Fire Meteor :: One line :: This spell produces a large fireball which flies towards a target at great speeds. Upon impact with a surface or enemy, the fireball explodes violently outward in a powerful magical combustion. A devastating attack which utilizes overwhelming, concentrated destructive power.
~ Flaming Passion :: Three line :: The user utilizes the element of fire to supplement their own physical capabilities. The user gains the power to create/manifest and direct magical flame, provided they focus intensely when sustaining control. For more brief uses, the flame can be used to augment physical attacks by dealing extra damage to enemies or targets. Even flight and levitation become possible, if only briefly. The most practical use of this attack is to launch a hailstorm of fire-based attacks in conjunction with Chao's own physical, punishing attacks. The speed of a magus can be greatly increased via artificial jet propulsion, which in tandem with her reinforcement allows Chao to move very quickly and strike with potentially fatal blows.
~ Inferno Tempest :: Two line :: This spell creates a searing funnel of magical flame from a concentrated point of prana. The funnel spreads outwards in an almost cone-like shape and extends to a range of five meters without difficulty. This spell can be used defensively as well as offensively, as anything caught within the funnel of flame catches fire itself. By focusing her prana and sustaining flow, Chao can move the focused epicenter of the funnel and control the funnel's direction.
~ Fire Tendril :: Single-Action :: This spell creates a thin, searing whip of flame. The whip can be used to seize enemies or objects, and whether or not the flame burns depends on the will of the caster. These whips can be dual-wielded, and move with serpentine dexterity.
~ Flame Threshold :: Three line :: This spell creates a towering, tall and wide wall of prana-infused flame. This wall can be used to completely block mundane projectiles and even serves as a powerful defense against anti-barrier magic attacks. When the wall of flame feels it is to be compromised and believes it cannot withstand an enemy attack, the wall of flame then explodes outward, throwing itself with force built up and covertly absorbed from the same attack overpowering it. The explosion rushes towards the direction the attack came from, often managing to serve as a surprise attack that could prove fatal if the defensive wall is compromised.

Battle Info
Battlesuit Armaments
- Composition - Chao Rinshen's battlesuit is custom tailored to fit her frame, but also to include a number of useful functions. The fabric of the "base piece" of the uniform is a bodysuit designed to keep the user cool in the Summer and warm in the winter. It is fireproof, flame retardant, corrosion-proof, waterproof, non-conductive, and renders even intermediate level spells and critical physical attacks useless against her, not simply absorbing things like physical impact or shock and momentum but outright refusing them.
- Physical Performance - Even without magical reinforcement, this suit greatly increases Chao's physical performance capabilities by a factor of five. Strength, speed, endurance, all of these are given a massive boost in ability simply because of the nanomechanics of the suit itself. It is EMP hardened, so the outfit cannot be short circuited. With solely the battlesuit and her heightened muscle contractile speeds made possible by nanomachines, she can move at speeds of up to 75 miles per hour. She can lift a car with slight effort and even throw it, essentially using the "magic-technology integration" to become superhuman in regards to physical performance. This is made possible by her existing in peak physical condition already at the pinnacle of human performance, combined with the utilization of nanomachines and the suit itself.
- Prana Rejection - Chao can activate a function of her battlesuit and prana-molecules known as "Resonance Cascade" to reject prana that comes into contact with her suit. This technique outright cancels single-action spells and renders greater protection than a anti-magic amulet. Double-action spells can be shrugged off effortlessly as well, but three-line spells merely have their effects reduced. The potential of this defense is unknown, but most enemy's simple spells bounce right off and only intermediate-level spells seem to affect her to any noticeable degree. Presumably, multiple-aria spells would need to be cast in order to influence her battlesuit.
- Prana Electrodes - Located strictly in her battlesuit's gloves, the electric shock administered by contact - ranging from sustained to brief contact so she may grab enemies or simply punch or chop them - is determined by her own output of prana into the gauntlets themselves. The shock is powerful enough to conduct through even reinforced and prana-laden defenses, and can inflict minor burns and induce paralysis through precise, prana-guided electric shocks. So, even a single punch can render an enemy stunned and slightly burned, and the voltage can be adjusted from static shock levels to levels only seen in lightning itself. Lightning can be cast from the gloves, but only up to a range of five-ten meters.
- Anti-gravity Propulsion System - Located in the EMP hardened stabilizers on her hips, these anti-gravity stabilizers allow Chao to levitate by altering the gravitons around her via prana. She can use this to her advantage and merely levitate, or she can actually "fly" with these devices in conjunction with the jets in her boots and the repulsors in her gloves. These modules utilize prana to allow her to fully manipulate gravity around her within a three meter radius.
- Prana Kinesis Repulsor Module - Built into Chao's gloves, the palms of her battlesuit can utilize powerful, focused blasts of prana for either instantaneous bursts or sustained blasts of prana which manifests as high-levels of wind/air pressure so powerful they are visible as an almost translucent, plasma-like matter. These repulsors can be used to pick up and telekinetically (albeit clumsily) control anything within a seven meter range of the repulsors. Usually, though, they are used to stabilize the prana-fueled flight of her boots, and pack enough force to send a tank rolling many times over.
- Jet Propulsion Modules - Built into the undersides of her boots, these modules utilize fire-element prana to create burst-style or sustained jet propulsion. She can accelerate to speeds surpassing those of jets with ease, and can also use the afterburner function to deliver a devastating surprise attack.
External Armaments
- Time Manipulation Module Cassiopeia - A Mystic Code module built into the back of her battlesuit, and covered by a reinforced shell. This pocketwatch is capable of the lost magic of time manipulation to a bizarre extent, allowing her to travel into the past, present, or future. However, its use is strictly limited in battle to "dimensional time-leaping." This allows her to exit the time plane in one location, use a dimension where times moves faster, and re-enter the time plane in another location. It is essentially a teleportation device when used in battle, although her battlesuit's anti-gravity module is engineered to act as a catalyst for her time magic, letting her influence time in a bounded field with a maximum of three meters. Though, this is simply used to make herself faster or cause enemies or weapons/attacks to become slower, rendering the ability itself impractical when held side-by-side to Cassiopeia's teleportation ability. Chao can only use Cassiopeia twelve times a day between teleporting, influencing time around her, or using personal-level time magic.
- Miscellaneous Magic-Technology Integration Armaments - An unspecified number of devices which integrate magic and science for a variety of functions, usually used as tools or weapons. These cannot be specified due to the vast number, but the most essential one is the female android Chachamaru Karakuri, described as a separate character below.
Chinese Martial Arts - Chao has mastered a variety of Chinese Martial Arts to the point of expertise, and most typically utilizes this training in tandem with her own magical reinforcement to make herself a very deadly battle mage. Whereas most magus are "squishy," Chao attacks with unwavering ability and confidence. She utilizes these various forms of martial arts in order to fight enemies, and switches her form depending on what sort of enemy she is facing.
